Being Thankful for What We Sometimes Take for Granted

Gratitude is the Right Attitude

In the Bible, in the book of James, verse 1:17 (KJV), it says, “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.”

As I read this verse this morning, I couldn’t help but sit in awe of how good our God truly is. It can become very easy to get calloused and ungrateful as we sometimes take things for granted. Things like having food and shelter, clothing and clean water, become so normal that it can be easy to forget about God in the mix of things.

Today I feel renewed with gratitude. As I prayed, I thanked God for being so good, and for being our God. I thanked Him even for the little things. He is a good Father, and He is worthy of all the praise!

Here are a few verses about gratitude that are full of truth, which brings with it, wisdom, and quenches the longing in our souls.

Psalm 7:17 (NIV)

I will give thanks to the Lord because of His righteousness,

I will sing the praises of the name of the Lord Most High.

Philippians 4:6-7 (NIV)

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

It’s fitting to talk about being grateful during the month of November, with Thanksgiving just around the corner. We don’t need to stop there though; we can celebrate the Lord with our gratitude all year long.

Until next time, stay safe, and be blessed! 🙂
