Let’s go on this gratitude journey together

Hello, poetry and writing friends! I hope you are well! Today, we are talking about being grateful, and specifically, three reasons we can always have gratitude.

As I restart my gratitude journey after my long bout with depression, I am excited to begin to see my life change. I wish the same for you as we seek more reasons for gratitude; let’s go on this journey together!

I think back to my great-grandma and how she modelled gratitude for others when she was alive. She faced significant amounts of adversary, pain and hardships, but almost no one ever heard her complain about anything.

I want to become more like my great-grandma, and being more grateful is a good start.

Gratitude gives birth to more gratitude

Something the great Dr Phil says is, “You can’t give away what you don’t have.”I see the parallel with gratitude. The more we acknowledge what makes us grateful, the more thankful we become.

Remember that you can always be grateful for these three things when you struggle with finding reasons to be thankful:

1. Be grateful for the breath of life

I believe our breath comes directly from the Creator. It’s a good reason to have gratitude because we wouldn’t be here without it.

Something we can do is practice breathing exercises to get the whole experience we are to be grateful for. We can focus on the wonders of being alive as we practice deep breathing.

2. Be grateful for your senses

Imagine a world without your senses. Our world would function more like robots, and all creativity might vanish. Our senses enhance our experiences, help protect us from danger, and add spice to our lives.

A fun grounding exercise we can do is, one by one, focus on each of our senses. The sense itself intensifies as we close our eyes and focus on each sense, and I believe it’s the same for gratitude. Gratitude can become like our new “sense” if we practice it enough.

3. Be grateful for the gift of language and communication

We are lucky to have the skills to speak and write in our complex languages. It’s amazing what our minds can do.

It’s also impressive that humans have learned to talk and communicate with their hands. Besides body gestures, we have an entire rich language of sign language, and I think that’s pretty neat!

Gratitude is a process

This gratitude list could go on for blocks, but I want to slowly begin this process, focussing on only a few things at once. We can look at being more grateful as an exercise we must practice to get stronger at it, just like with physical activity.

I think it’s best to start the journey at the beginning of our day, so it can, in turn, set us up for a grateful mindset throughout our day.

I searched for gratitude~~Poetry~~

I searched for gratitude
in your smile

I searched for gratitude
in your words

I searched for gratitude
in your actions

and always came up dry

now I see
that when
we believe
we are blessed
for things
we naturally
possess
it gives us
a reason
to be grateful
for every
aspect of life
itself

we can
be
grateful

as we gain
true wealth

In conclusion

Overall, I can’t see any adverse consequences of being grateful; it can only enhance our lives and give us more hope for the future.

I hope you enjoyed my short gratitude list. I think it’s important to be grateful, and I need to practice gratitude more. I believe it will better my life, and in turn, I can better the lives of others.
