The Love of Rebekah and Isaac

I got the chills this morning as I read the Bible story about Isaac meeting Rebekah for the first time. Even though she must have been scared to go and meet him in a faraway land, she willingly went and left her family behind to start a new life of potential love.

For all she knew, her new life could have been the marriage from hell!

Something that has always spoken to me about the character of Rebekah is that her family wanted her to stay for up to another ten days before leaving to meet her new husband. When met with resistance, Rebekah was willing to leave right away with the men. She had a choice to go or not, and she took a chance. This must have taken a great deal of courage.

The moment that gives me the chills the most happens when Rebekah has almost arrived at Isaac’s home, and Isaac is meditating in the field. She asks who this man is that she sees, and the men tell her that it is Isaac. She places a veil over her head to hide her face.

The anticipation at that point must have been through the roof!

Imagine riding through that field, moments before meeting your new spouse and all of the feelings that would be spiraling throughout your body. I bet that she felt a mixture between excitement and pure fear!

Next, it says that she became his wife and that he loved her. After I read that, I stopped. It says that he loved her, and I believe that by specifically saying this it means that he loved her with a genuine, whole-hearted love.

It also says that Issac is comforted after his mother, Sarah’s death. I know the heartache of losing a loved one, so this aspect of the story warmed my heart as well.  It’s really such a heartwarming story!

I did not plan on reading this story today. It happened to fall into the Bible reading plan that was a part of the devotional I read this morning. I am really glad that I did though. It’s a fitting story, with Valentine’s day coming up. It’s also a good way to start the day. Who doesn’t like a good love story, right? 🙂

Now, back to reality, and to see what the world will end up doing with itself today.

Until next time, stay safe, and be blessed! 🙂
