I Remember Who You Used To Be

I held you in my arms when you were helpless
only showing you love and devotion
vacuuming away negativity from others
who didn’t appreciate your presence
.
little did I know, those were your best years
our roads cracked in half, and no one could repair them
kittens floated down the river, but I couldn’t save them
you never tried to repair the damage to the bridge
.
I remember the moments I photographed in my mind
I wouldn’t take them back, but you no longer live in that home
out in the pool having talks about life, I thought we would share
these thoughts do not serve me well anymore
.
my heart no longer has room for your sweaters
and I am knitting more in the meantime
if you need to keep warm, you have your helper
my yarn only holds promises that stay
.
I can’t hear your words anymore
they hit a stop sign, and I set them free
a rotating door will shout out the ending
no room for silence when removing chaos
.
you think I have hate in my heart
hate would be easier to erase
I have a longing for who you used to be
sadly, she died long ago
.

I never liked the thought of goodbyes
especially when someone else took over
I won’t leave a place card for you at my table
I  can’t allow you to survive in both worlds at once
