Hello, My Poetry and Writing Friends!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hello, my poetry and writing friends! How are you? I hope you are well!
Thank you for visiting my blog. I appreciate you being here. 🙂
Today’s poem is about childhood memories that followed the next generation and manifested into the reality of now. It’s a shame, but this is how it has to be.
~Poetry is NOT dead!~
A Desperate Plea
`
I desperately came to you
as a small child
and told you, my sister
was chasing me with butcher knives
and I was sure you would rescue me
like caregivers do
instead, you said it wasn’t true
I wondered if, deep inside
you knew I was telling you the truth
I felt helpless, trapped and misused
I told myself that you were not trustworthy
the day you first rejected me
and I couldn’t open up to you about anything
not if you didn’t believe me when I was suffering
at the hands of one of your other children
fast forward to what happened more recently
after all of these years, the pattern repeats
we come to you with a report of abuse
and you turn your head
I call the police
you tell them I made it all up
and blame it on my mental illness
you even gave me a new diagnosis
I’ve never had schizophrenia
not as you told them
all of this in the hopes
that you could protect the perpetrator
the damage has been done
and now, it’s too late for a do-over
you didn’t believe us
when it mattered the most
you turned your back on us
when we were at our lowest
now you wonder why I can’t
come around anymore
but do I need to explain to you again?
neither of us will ever win
amidst this toxic situation
I can choose to distance myself
for my own sanity
and for my family’s well-being
I wish you a blessed life and good health
I’m sorry, but I need to protect myself
