~Poetry is NOT Dead!~

Hello, Poetry Friends!

Hello, and I hope you are well! Over here we had a drastic change in weather these last 48 hours. I went from being freezing to overheating, and now it’s getting cold again!

My Dad always used to say that he would rather be cold than hot because you could always try to warm up, but if you’re boiling hot it’s harder to cool down. I am not sure which one I prefer because I don’t like either!

Today I thought of my dad, and how much I miss him. I miss all of my family but decided to focus on him today. I wrote a short poem in his honor. I wonder how many of those I’ve written since he passed away? Probably quite a few. Anyway, I hope you enjoy it, and if you have a poem to share, I would love to hear it!

Poetry is for everyone!

You Are Still on My Mind

I can close my eyes
and instantaneously
see your smiling face
within my mind

I see your sky-blue eyes
and hear your wisdom
I feel your comfort
as I try not to cry

I think of your
kindness and all of
the times we shared

and how you concerned yourself
with all my needs and cares

I admit to taking you
for granted sometimes

thinking you would
always be around

but since you are now absent
all I can try to do is
try to make you proud
and try to go on

without you

when I drink an
espresso
or eat a bagel
I’ll always think of you

the ocean shouts
echos of your presence

from all the days
you paced it

I will always look to the water
to make my problems seem smaller
just as you taught me
so many times before

and I’ll ask the Creator for comfort
as I wait to see you again
in the next realm

just beyond
