My World Turned to Ash

Hello, Poetry Friends!

I hope you are well! Over here we are having a really rainy day, to the point where our roof is leaking in several places. I guess it’s time for a new roof!

Ah, well, when life doesn’t go as we planned, it’s good to remember that things will improve and we will move on from any problem we encounter, with God’s help, and by being proactive with our mental health.

Today’s poem originates from when my house burned down. It added to my PTSD because I re-entered the house at least 7 times to save my cats. I lost a lot in that fire, but we didn’t lose any lives, so that’s the most important thing.

~Poetry is NOT dead!~

My World Turned to Ash

but I can still see the bright side

it happened so quickly
I didn’t have a chance to react
so I froze and stood back
as my world turned to ash
and there was nothing I could do except
change my mindset

little by little
after many days of suffering
I began to see changes happening inside of me

the days would not begin with so much dread
and it wasn’t such a challenge to get out of bed

Since I know too well what depression can steal
I am more determined than ever to heal
and if anyone tries to get in my way

I will tell them how I feel
and I will pray that they won’t show
their toxic ways and learn to deal
because the reality is that
I’m still a fragile and sensitive soul
with a heart full of brokenness
that has swallowed me whole

I wonder if the Creator is unhappy with me
as I sit with my sadness underneath this willow tree
I look up at the sky and make a desperate plea
that he will always care for, and watch over me

and though I had trouble finding peace in this realm
I am determined to no longer get overwhelmed

my world turned to ash
but in the process
I was found

Poetry is such a good way to relieve stress. Another good thing about poetry is that if you don’t want others to know what you are talking about, you can write in any type of coded language you choose. It’s pretty spectacular, in my opinion. 🙂
