Hello, My Poetry and Writing Friends! 🖤
I hope you are well! Thank you for visiting my poetry blog. I appreciate you being here!
.
Today’s poem was written last year. It’s about having to be estranged from a large section of my family. Some think it’s because I am unforgiving, but it’s not so simple.
.
I need to protect my mental health, and can’t afford any less.
.
I have come a long way since writing this poem, and it no longer hurts so much.

It Didn’t Have To Be This Way~~Poetry~
they say not to play the victim
as they’re stomping on my feet
they want me to forgive them
but they never care to say sorry
I used to lose control
lashed out and tried
to be just as mean
until my spirit suffered
and instead
I had to break free
still, it hurts
that I don’t have my family
all I ever wanted was to be loved
and accepted, just for being me
I never felt like enough for any of them
I kept waiting for them to grow up
hoping they would be my friend
instead, they spit in my face
time and time again
no one has ever hurt me
as much as they did
and I don’t think
anyone ever could
because these were
the people I loved the most
and yet, they now have become
the ache in the back of my throat

They said they like to sit around and laugh at my writing and my pain. I feel someone who delights in another’s pain has a sickness I can’t cure.

~Thank you for reading, and until next time, stay safe and be blessed!~🖤🖤🖤
