A short poem

A Sorrowful Anniversary

I’ve been missing you for a while now
today, I almost shed a tear
remembering the day, you left us
and the absence, my heart still feels
but I was scared to let myself cry
because I didn’t know if I could stop
or if I could handle letting myself
feel the entirety of this painful loss

If you are a person who looks at pets as family, then you understand how hard it is when we lose one of them. Our family lost our kitty, Gizmo, on Halloween 2021.

Since Gizmo passed away, his twin brother, Daniel, has slept in the room Gizmo died in and sometimes howls there at night. I sometimes wonder if he sees his other-worldly brother; it’s a comforting thought.
