Hello, Poetry Friends!

Hello, and I hope you are well! Today was one of those days where I was missing loved ones, so it spilt out onto the paper. Thankfully, for the most part, I can leave it there. Poetry can be like therapy, and I am so glad I returned to it. My depression blotted it out for a while, but hopefully, even if I go through another depression, I can at least bring poetry with me.

Speaking of poetry…

~and for now, it’s enough~

time slips by
stealing my youth
yet also helping
heal my pain

I remember that day when we went to our favorite lake. You walked over to get a snow cone, and when you came back, you were shocked to see what I had done. All the cookies you bought were gone; I had fed the seagulls every last one. Even as I remember your voice’s anger, I knew you cared.

I turn my head as if to visualize another time spent with you. So many years have passed, yet somehow I feel I can still reach out and touch you. You still suspend behind my eyes, where visions manifest.

Remember when we walked along the seashore, gathering shells and looking at the many jellyfish that had washed up from the sea- all dead. I wondered how this happened while you mentioned how you love the smell of the ocean. I agree, even though we both know it’s a smell of death. I mention this, and you say I’m morbid. I laugh, ‘I must have got it from somewhere,” I say.

we walk along together
even though so long ago
I’m still there
in another world
where you’re still here

time softens the blow
but not the lump in my throat
that grows with each loss
as I forcefully block out my tears
for if I were to start crying
I may never stop

so I rock back and forth

and hum to myself

I have to think of something else
even if it’s in a childish way

some may think it looks crazy
but it gets me through the tragedy

we all have loved and lost something
and have our own worst story
so we need to have compassion
for everyone
even if it’s from a distance

~Thanks for reading! Until next time, stay safe, and be blessed!~
